Home FAQs
HOW IS GREEN BASEMENT SYSTEMS BETTER THAN OTHER SYSTEMS?
Our system is made with our exclusive MgO Board Technology.  These panels are environmentally friendly, fire resistant, waterproof, mold resistant and provide excellent strength and insulation, making Green Basement Systems the best product to withstand common basement conditions.

WHAT IS DRYWALL, SHEETROCK & GYPSUM?
Gypsum, better known as sheetrock or drywall, is      composed of dihydrous calcium sulfate (gypsum)     sandwiched between two layers of paper.  Gypsum contains large amounts of water bound in crystalline form; 10 square feet of gypsum board contains over 2 quarts of water.  By weight the compound is 21% water, but by volume it is nearly 50% water.

CAN GREENBOARD DRYWALL BE USED FOR WET APPLICATIONS?
This is a common misunderstanding.  While greenboard drywall’s paper covering is water resistant, it is not water proof.  Not only that, but the brittle gypsum core is not suitable for wet or damp locations, like your basement.

WHAT CAN I HANG ON THE WALLS?
The unique qualities of Green Basement Systems allow you to hang artwork, large pictures, heavy shelves, cabinets, a large flat screen TV… anything you want!

ARE THE MATERIALS MOLD RESISTANT?
Because moisture can lead to mold and mildew growth which can cause upper respiratory illnesses, Green Basement Systems is sure to provide top-of-the-line mold resistance.

SHOULD I USE FIBERGLASS INSULATION IN MY HOME?
Absolutely not.  Moisture problems in basements have lead experts to recommend against using fiberglass batt or blanket insulation in a basement.  This traditional method is no longer recommended because of excessive problems with mold, mildew, decay, rot and degradation of indoor air quality.  To maintain long term effectiveness, fiberglass should not be exposed to high-moisture conditions, such as a damp basement.

CAN FIBERGLASS CAUSE CANCER?
In 1993, the government declared that fiberglass dust is “reasonably anticipated” to cause cancer.  Like asbestos, fibrous glass is potentially lethal only when its most microscopic fibers become airborne and are inhaled.  Fiberglass insulation should be enclosed in walls where the fibers will not become airborne or installed in non- habitable spaces.

CAN GREEN BASEMENT SYSTEMS BE INSTALLED IF MY EXISTING WALLS ARE UNEVEN OR MADE OF STONE?
Yes. If the ceiling height meets building code, Green Basement Systems is your best choice because it’s rigid and free-standing.

WHAT IF I NEED TO ACCESS THE FOUNDATION OR WALLS?
Our panels can be removed and re-installed, allowing access to your foundation, or electrical and plumbing.

DO YOU OFFER A WARRANTY?
Yes. Our Lifetime Limited Warranty is among the best in the industry -- it's even transferrable!

HOW LONG WILL INSTALLATION TAKE?
It depends on the size and complexity of the room, but in most cases, Green Basement Systems can be installed in about two weeks.

CAN I PURCHASE THE SYSTEM AND INSTALL IT MYSELF?
No. Green Basement Systems is only available through certified dealers and must be installed by factory trained professionals. Contact us for more information and a free estimate today.
